Core Functions
In keeping with the mandate of Chambers internationally and the main areas of focus of the Grenada Chamber of Industry (GCIC), the St. Andrew’s Chapter of the GCIC will concentrate on the following broad areas:
1. Advocacy
2. Information Dissemination
3. Training
4. Social Development
The St. Andrew’s Chapter of the GCIC will customise its Core Functions to the specific conditions and needs in the parish of St. Andrews.
ADVOCACY
The St. Andrew’s Chapter sees the restoration of the dynamic agricultural base of the parish as a strategic necessity.
In this regard the Chapter will advocate for the following:
a. The creation of base-level agricultural industries that will create the product base for agro- Industries, example; nutmeg production for nutmeg related agro-processing.
b. The expanded production of food.
c. The creation of a reorganized livestock industry to take advantage of the planned new abbatoir.
d. The creation of efficiently run agri- businesses conforming with modern Private Sector management practices.
f. The elevation of sanitation standards in the city of Grenville, including food handling, rodent control and the treatment of stagnant water.
e. The development of support services for agri-businesses, including pest and weed-control, and other farm maintenance, as well as plant propagation and machinery services.
INFORMATION DISSEMINATION
The St. Andrew’s Chapter in conjunction with the GCIC will engage in the dissemination of trade and business-related information among the commercial and agricultural business community of St. Andrew’s.
The means untilised will included the following:
a. The GCIC Newsletter.
b. The GCIC Business Hour programme
c. Special General Meetings of the members of the Chapter where officials will make presentations on selected areas of interest.
d. The GCIC Website.
TRAINING
The St. Andrew’s Chapter will reintroduce the culture of training among the Private Sector of St. Andrew’s. The choice of areas of training will be according to identified needs. One such area is VAT education the business community will require VAT Seminars, so as to become familiar with the methodology of the new tax, and will need practical exercises in the filling out of documents and other administrative procedures.
SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT
The St. Andrew’s Chapter will work together with the GCIC, Civil Society groups and the Government to undertake project aimed at uplifting social conditions in the parish.
Potential Membership
The Membership of the St. Andrew’s Chapter of the GCIC will be drawn from the following groups:
a. The Farming Community
b. Farms’ Organisations
c. Fishermen’s Associations
d. Small Business Associations
e. Bus Associations
f. Businesses that are national in their scope of operations and have a presence in the parish
g. Credit Unions and Co-operatives
h. Commodity Boards
i. Commercial entities operating in parish of St. Andrew’s
